Tongues are usually a source of pleasure. Everyone loves a good lick of their favorite ice cream or lollipop. Of course, in Horror movies, this source of pleasure we call our tongues have frequently been used to taste something disgusting, or just flat out ripped out of some poor soul's mouth. So, I'm sure you can see where this list is going.
Here Are The…..
Top 12 Tongues In Horror

12. The Eye (2002)
Let's start off light. Here we have the blue tongue ghost chillin' at a diner like any other normal ghost does. No big deal...right? Oh, wait, this mannerless apparition is sticking its blue suede tongue out at our protagonist. How fuckin rude? Didn't this ghost's grandmother or mother ever teach it anything? If you're scaring the fecal matter out of a living victim, at least have the courtesy to keep your slithering tongue in your month. My fuckin goodness.
11. The Midnight Meat Train (2008)
Bradley Cooper is an exceptional actor. He's believable, he's intense if he has to be, and he chooses different types of genres to flaunt his talent in. One of his earlier roles was in the Clive Barker story "The Midnight Meat Train," directed by Japanese director, Ryuhei Kitamura who Horror fans may know from a film called "Versus." (2000) There's a lot of jaw-gawking gore in this movie, but there's a tongue scene that makes me almost lose my kool-aid. Have a look at the GIF and see for yourself.
10. Night of the Demons (1988)
In "Night of the Demons" we have another tongue-rip. This one goes a little differently. Where in "The Midnight Meat Train" we have a tongue ripped out and eaten, in this movie, our popular demon Angela bites out a dude named Stooge's tongue and spits it out as if to say it just isn't tasty enough. At least she can't be mad at Stooge for not slipping any tongue into that kiss.
9. TIE [Breaker?] Ichi the Killer (2001) / Oldboy (2003)
Since #9's a tie and I've written a fair amount about "Ichi the Killer" in the past, I'm gonna focus a little bit more on "Oldboy." 'Ichi the Killer' is notorious for its extreme violence, as seen in the first gif. If you can handle hardcore gore - and I do mean hardcore - do yourself a favor and watch this movie.
"Oldboy" fucks you up both with violence and a super mindfuck that will have you thinking of the reveal while your closing your eyes at night to go to sleep. This is a hard-hitting story that goes for the jugular and anything else your throat possesses. Without being too spoilery, our main character finds out some off-putting information that leads to him mutilating himself by way of the tongue. This scenes shows less than "Ichi the Killer," but feels more real with the sound made by our main character. I bet those scissors were never used for anything ever again.

8. Head of the Family (1996)
This forgotten 90's Horror movie is far from Oscar material (whatever that is nowadays) but it's a far distance from boring, too. It's the story of a huge head on a tiny body. You read right...a man with a huge head and a tiny body controls his family through mind power. He also controls this disgusting tongue that slips out of his mouth for some oral pleasure. Seek out the movie if you wanna see the whole scene in its repulsive glory. It's currently streaming for free on tubitv.com.
7. The Dentist (1996)
Director Brian Yuzna had me turning away from the t.v. when the teeth pulling scenes came on. This guy knows how to have fun with gore! He is a very inspirational director in my eyes. Now, let's get to the tongue scene. I don't know how this didn't make me turn away on my first view as now I see it being more gruesome than the teeth pulling. The tongueless wife of killer Dr. Feinstone is a disgusting site to say the least. Maybe she deserved punishment for her infidelity, but ouch!!! Watch the scene in which he handles the situation of his cheating wife and try not to wince or turn away.
6. Tales of Poe (2014)
"Tales of Poe" reeled me in with its title. The movie, as gory as it is, is a tad boring at times. That's just a minor complaint, though. The first story tosses a bunch of mental patients our way. We all know how Horror movies with mental patients usually turn out...this one's no different. The climax of this opening tale has a very proper tongue-rip. It looks painful, and the blood literally splatters on another mental patient’s face. A+ gore.
5. Dead Silence (2007)
Mary Shaw is the name of the killer in "Dead Silence," and even though screenwriter Leigh Whannell sort of disowned the film due to so many changes being made to his script (one being the detective played by Don Wahlberg shaving during every scene) I still like the movie. I honestly didn't see the ending coming even though on a second viewing it seems pretty obvious. The atmosphere and blood gags are good. The dialog isn't bad either. My favorite part, though....the numerous tongues Mary Shaw has tied together from all of her victims. Gruesome shit and visually satisfying.
4. Evil Dead (2013)
This is hard to watch, and at the same time hard to look away. Such a brilliant way to fuck up a tongue, in fact, all the gore in this movie is in-fuckin-credible. The characters actually brought me out of the movie. Normally, good gore can make me forget about any flaws a movie has. "Evil Dead" 2013 seems like the filmmakers auditioned the most unlikable and out of place actors they could find. I heard the unrated version makes the gore/lame-character ratio more in favor of the gore. I will get on that as soon as I can to see if that's true.
3. Dude Bro Party Massacre 3 (2015)
Ripped out tongues take up a third of this list. This one may be the funniest, though. "Dude Bro Party Massacre 3" is damn near lightning in a bottle. So many modern slasher films try to replicate the 80's...not all of them succeed, most of them fail, or just barely get it right. This movie hits all the right marks. Along with "The Editor" - "Dude Bro Party Massacre 3's" cast & crew should pat themselves on their bloody backs for not only loving 70's/ 80's Giallo and Slasher films, but for nailing the feel and execution. Oh, and this tongue scene is funny as fuck in DBPM3!!!
2. A Nightmare On Elm Street Series (1984)
The king of strange tongue moments seems to be Freddy Krueger. Robert Englund improvised the tongue-wiggle during the boiler room scene. The tongue-phone was thought of as an extra gag, too...not by Englund, but by somebody on the crew. It was a stroke of brilliance as this scene stands out in a film full of practical SFX. The series also embraced Freddy' tongue throughout the sequels. I chose to go with the original film based on the surprise element, alone. "I'm your boyfriend now, Nancy!"
1. Killer Tongue [La lengua asesina] (1996)
It's purely a coincidence that Robert Englund is in this movie. It's not even his tongue that does all the killing, it’s a character's named Candy played by actress Melinda Clarke. Fifteen minutes in, I wasn't into this movie, by the end credits, I was a fan. I'd like to see an HD transfer, but that's a different conversation. "Killer Tongue" is as cheesy and sleazy as one would think it is. It has a dash of Sci-Fi in it, too. An outer space alien lands in Candy's mouth and takes over her tongue. The tongue begins popping out and speaking to her in a very similar way the brain parasite, Aylmer does in the film "Brain Damage." This nasty tongue does a slasher-riffic job of killing people. There's a lot of funny and gory moments in this movie, but I had to go with this scene where a man's genitals are being destroyed by the killer tongue - an ironic moment, indeed. Due to moments like this all up in the film, "Killer Tongue" has the number 1 tongue in Horror!
