Horror at the Box Office

015.jpg

To the surprise of nobody, Marvel as stepped in to take back their thrown once again with the release of 'Avengers: Infinity War” bringing in a whopping $25 million on their opening weekend. The big surprise however, is that 'A Quiet Place’ is still standing its ground, holding on tight to second place with just over $10 million brought in this weekend, bringing its grand total up to $148 million dollars!

As for next week's predictions, I'm fairly sure 'Avengers’ isn't going anywhere for a little while. So don't hold your breath for any massive changes.

HORROR SHOP OF THE WEEK: DEMONIC PINFESTATION

018.png

Over the past several weeks, I’ve introduced you to a few of my favorite things, including horror tees, coffee, and bath bombs. This week, I’m excited to share yet another of my not-so-secret addictions: enamel pins. It’s been a growing obsession a couple of years in the making. And one of the first shops I really fell in love with when I was first bit by the pin bug, and still one of my absolute favorites, is Demonic Pinfestation.

019.jpg

This is another incredible female-owned shop that I was honored to feature in our month-long Killer Shops Spotlight Series during Women in Horror Month over at Morbidly Beautiful. In fact, this was the shop we kicked off the series with because, as I explained in my interview with shop owner and talented artist and entrepreneur Melissa, this really is one of the number one shops that I strongly encourage you to check out and support.

Demon Pinfestation creates pins, stickers, prints and more inspired by horror, scream queens, anatomy and death. Melissa describes the shop as “feminine horror with a dash of blood.” She started the shop in November 2015, and she’s already made quite a name for herself in the pin collector community for her truly unique and jaw-dropping works of art.

As a huge supporter of women in horror (and one myself!), I absolutely love the fact that Demonic Pinfestation focuses on honoring and celebrating the strong female roles in horror movies that don’t get enough recognition and attention as their male counterparts. In fact, the lack of pins focused on women in horror movies was a key inspiration for Melissa started her now very successful business.

020.jpg

In fact, her first pin was inspired by scream queen Linnea Quigley’s iconic role in Night of the Demons and her extremely memorable “Is My Makeup Okay” scene. It’s a pin I’m proud to own and the one that began my love affair with this shop.

Since then, she continues to remain at the top of the pin game with one must have release after another. She’s also moved beyond just horror movie tributes, expanding into the morbid and macabre. Her darkly beautiful pins include lobotomy tools, creepy but stunning museum specimens, and anatomical models. These are extraordinary pins unlike anything else out there — an essential part of any serious collection.

Like all the shops I feature here each work, Melissa is also a truly kind and generous supporter of the small business, independent artist and horror communities. She is well loved in the community, and for very good reason. Once again, this is a shop you can feel really good about supporting while picking up some seriously killer merchandise.
