Steven Spielberg Explains Why He Chose ‘The Shining’ for That Epic ‘Ready Player One’ Scene
“The main living area with the grand fireplace in the Overlook is where I first encountered Stanley in 1979 when I went to look at the soundstages. They were about to build the sets for Raiders of the Lost Ark in Elstree Studios,” Spielberg says. “When I found out Stanley had completed a set and was planning his shots, I asked if I could meet him.”

The Video Game ‘Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle’ Unfortunately Cannot Create New Content Either
“We were trying to be sneaky and tease a special surprise update for Friday, July 13, but some people are getting freaked out because of the recent legal issues around the Gun game. We don’t want to confuse anyone or create trouble, so we’ll clarify a bit what’s happening! Yes, on July 13 we are releasing an update with a new Jason avatar you can earn for free by completing a special challenge. Let’s just say it’s never a good idea to hike by yourself. Yes, we are under the same legal restrictions as the Gun team on new content for our game. Nobody is lying or using that as an excuse to ‘quit’ working on the game.”

‘Child’s Play’ Creators Moving Forward On TV Series With Brad Dourif Amidst Reboot Announcement
Yes, Chucky, the killer doll that was introduced to audiences back in 1988, is still alive and kicking killing. Universal, franchise creator Don Mancini, and franchise producer David Kirschner have been collaborating for years on several sequels that recently set the stage for a television series that’s currently in development. If MGM is rebooting/remaking the Child’s Play films while the creators are in development on a television series, would they offer their blessing? The answer is, no.

The Devil's Doorway
Release: July 13th, 2018
Format: VOD
What unholy terrors lurk behind the walls of a secretive Irish convent? Northern Ireland, 1960: Father Thomas Riley (Lalor Roddy) and Father John Thornton (Ciaran Flynn) are dispatched by the Vatican to investigate reports of a miracle—a statue of the Virgin Mary weeping blood—at a remote Catholic asylum for “immoral” women. Armed with 16mm film cameras to record their findings, the priests instead discover a depraved horror show of sadistic nuns, satanism, and demonic possession. Supernatural forces are at work here—but they are not the doing of God. Inspired by the infamous true histories of Magdalene Laundries—in which “fallen women” were held captive by the Irish Catholic Church—this found footage occult shocker is a chilling encounter with unspeakable evil.

Horror At The Box-office
As with all Marvel movies, Ant-Man and The Wasp have easily taken the top spot even though spending for the films advertisement seems to have been at a record low in comparison to most, if not all other MCU films. Even I was unaware that the film was coming out over the weekend till a few days prior. But this goes to show you that Marvel has the market in a corner regardless of what they are releasing these days and are going to make a few bucks off of anything they decide to give us.
On that note, in the horror category, 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” has dropped down to second place and is close to surpassing the billion dollar mark worldwide which shows you how successful the film is and has been, so kudos to them. And with the latest installment in the 'Purge’ franchise also being released over the weekend, it was able to take the fourth spot while bringing in just over $17 million dollars, surpassing it’s $13 million dollar budget which is still pretty impressive considering it’s ranking.

BOOGEYWOLF LOST BOYS MEGA GIVEAWAY
I’m doing something a bit different this week. As you know, each week I spotlight one of my favorite indie/horror shops that I think deserves your attention and support. This week, I want to tell you about an amazing giveaway being hosted on Instagram.
It’s one of the biggest, most insane giveaways ever — and it’s all inspired by a shared love for the 1987 film The Lost Boys, which just celebrated its 30th anniversary last year.
Organized by Boogeywolf (an incredible shop I’ve previously featured in this column), the giveaway brings together an unbelievable 200 shops and artists. Each of them is contributing a very special item inspired by the film. Many of the shops have created something exclusive just for this giveaway.
The giveaway launches on July 31st. There will be five lucky winners selected, with each winner receiving a whopping 40 prizes.
In order to win, you’ll have to be following all 200 shops. But, before you balk at that, let me tell you how easy this will be. Boogeywolf will be sharing a total of 21 video showcases from his Instagram page (@boogeywolf). Each video will preview the prizes from 10 of the shops featured in the giveaway.
This gives you a chance to see all the amazing work up for grabs and allows you to follow these incredibly talented artists and makers in bite-size chunks of 10 at a time. The first video was posted on Monday, July 9th, featuring prizes from some of my absolute favorite shops.
Besides the fact that this is so easy to do, the shops participating in this giveaway are easily some of the absolute best around. Not only are they enormously talented — creating some of the coolest, incredibly killer products and artwork — but they are also among the kindest, most generous and supportive people in the horror/indie community.
Each week, I am fortunate enough to share my shop recommendations with you as part of this wonderful column. I absolutely love it, and I truly hope it’s helped you discover some great new shops you can feel good about purchasing from. But this is a chance for me to introduce you to 200 amazing shops at one time!
As a sidenote, I’m so thrilled and honor to share that I’ll also be contributing a piece to the giveaway. It’s an exclusive print I created just for this giveaway, and I’ll be sharing it this week on my Instagram page at @srgreenhaw. I hope you love it as much as I loved creating it.
Follow Boogeywolf on Instagram @boogeywolf for complete contest details and announcements, as well as to check out all the prizes available to win and the shops you’ll want to be following. Good luck!!
